ROCK BLOG: Nickelback covered Metallica in 2011?

March 9, 2017

Oh boy, here we go.  The controversy surrounding Nickelback is always prominent, so when Jason, our Production Manager, discovered this 2011 video of Nickelback covering Metallica's song, "Sad But True", I had to put it out there.  Silly drama is funny.  It's free entertainment to see how much people get worked up over a band.  This video has recently re-surfaced, most likely because both bands are in the spotlight now with new albums and tours.  It was filmed in 2011 while the band was playing a festival at Rock Am Ring in Germany.  Even if you despise Nickelback, give it a whirl and see what you think.

What did you think?  A lot of anti-Nickelback people seemed to give them credit for doing a great job.  Did you find it respectful to Metallica?  Nickelback will be doing a full-on North American Tour beginning this June, in support of their new new album, Feed The Machine.  Okay, enough about Nickelback.  It was interesting to see that cover, especially if you didn't know it was out there, regardless of whether you loved or hated it.  Let's redeem ourselves with a Metallica video now.  Duh, and HELL YES, PLEASE!

As we all know, Metallica is the most successful American heavy metal band EVER.  No one could ever come close to their caliber, in my opinion.  They are currently in the middle of their WorldWired Tour in support of their 10th studio album, Hardwired…To Self Destruct.

Metallica will be crushing CenturyLink Field with Avenged Sevenfold and Gojira on August 9th.  Get your tickets here!

Metallica has always been a constant in my life.  I graduated from high school in 1996, so their self-titled album, Metallica (1991), was a huge presence throughout my high school days.  A dear friend from those years, was a guy named Travis Ogan.  He had a black IROC-Z Camaro.  Almost every weekend, 4 or 5 of us would cruise Main in the tiny town of Madison, NE.  He had the best subwoofer system, and we would CRANK that album.  So much that our bodies shook!  Travis passed in December of 2012.  This song is for him, from all of us that knew and loved him.  May you blare it from wherever you are, bud!!  LONG LIVE METALLICA!
