A lead singer previously known for her acting roles as Cindy Lou Who In 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas', and Jenny Humphrey in 'Gossip Girl', joins a rock band at the age of 15?  Yes, indeed.  Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless shows it can be done..and done quite well.  (I do express my INITIAL skepticism at the end of this blog.)

Now age 23, Momsen is where she feels she can be exactly who she is, and DAMN...does she fit the role.  A blonde babe, with raspy vocals,  backed up by her hot, dark trio of men, Ben Phillips, Mark Damon and Jamie Perkins. Hot damn!  They came together in 2009 to form The Pretty Reckless, with their third album 'Who You Selling For' released this past October.

If you were lucky, you heard a live performance by The Pretty Reckless on Live Day here at KISW last Tuesday!  They played "Take Me Down" and Going To Hell"  from Des Moines, IA .

"Take Me Down"

"Going To Hell"

No worries if you didn't catch them then, because they are playing THIS Friday, December 2nd at The Showbox Sodo.  You can get your tickets here.

My friend, Jarod was at their show last Saturday in Sioux City, IA.  He said it was THE S***!  He also says, "I gotta tell you too, that I was really impressed by their opening band, Them Evils, AND, one more reason to go??  Tickets are hella reasonable!!

I have to say, I was skeptical about a "teenybopper" as a front woman for a rock band.  I myself, prefer male singers to begin with, but Momsen brings a real authenticity to her performances.  She also writes and co-writes her own songs, which completely legitimizes everything.  She's not just a "performer".  She is an artist, and belongs on that stage.  It's refreshing to hear a band with guts and grit, with potential to become classic and timeless.  It's one of the few female singer bands that I don't turn off when I hear them on the radio.  That says a lot!  Ha!  Duh.
