5 Songs About Pets

Rock Blog: Mostly dogs, with a few cats put in.

November 8, 2017

Today on our show. Migs likes to give BJ a hard time because BJ is not much of a dog person. And I will even take it a step further, BJ isn’t much of a pet person in general.

So what do we do on the show when we find out that something bugs our sho cohorts? We troll them about it! Migs asked Twitter and Instagram to send BJ pictures of their dogs, and so far he has got a crap ton.

So I decided, why not write a blog about 5 songs that dog inspired and written about people’s pets. Shall we?

5.) Freddie Mercury - 'Delilah'

Let’s start with ‘Queen’ frontman Freddie Mercury. He was no doubt a cat person. He kept several cats, whom he reportedly called home to talk to when he was on tour.

His first solo album, "Mr. Bad Guy" was even dedicated to those who shared his appreciation for felines. The dedication read, "to my cat Jerry — also Tom, Oscar and Tiffany, and all the cat lovers across the universe — screw everybody else."

Freddie even made his love for cats known on the Queen album "Innuendo," which features this song about one of his favorite feline friends, a tortoise shell cat named Delilah.

4.) The Misfits - “Hellhounds”

Not about a particular dog at all, but as you can tell by the title, what a song to listen to and crank as you and your pooch head out for a chilly fall run right?

3.) Motorhead - “Dogs”

Simply titled. Simply metal. This song has the line “You’re all the same, you’re all to blame you dogs”

Every metal head can jam to this one, and guess what, you won’t even have allergies when rocking.

2.) Led Zeppelin - “Black Dog”

Actually titled after a real black lab that was hanging around the recording studios in 1971 while recording this jam, it’s a great name, because this song has plenty of bite. Just listen to the guitars, pull your dog close, and rock out to some classic rock.

1.) Elvis Presley - “Hound Dog”

First song I think of when I think of our four legged companions? Hound Dog by the king himself. Not even having to do with an actual dog. It still is one that will go down in history as a song that was at least named after man’s best friend.

Did I miss any? What is your favorite K9 inspired song?
