Iron Mike Blog: Seattle Grunge Legend Chris Cornell Passes Away

May 18, 2017

What can I say that hasn't already been said today. Another Seattle music tragedy on epic proportions with the loss of Soundgarden's leader Chris Cornell. I was basically in shock last night till 4am really not believing what was told to me. I didn't post anything until I was certain this wasn't one of those normal death hoax's on the internet. Press release said he died “sudden and unexpected.” My first thought was a heart attack, but to hear later it was "ruled a suicide by hanging" was even more shocking.

I'm just gonna leave it there cause it's hard for me to fathom why he'd go that far to escape but I will say this, watching his show performance last night in Detroit that was definitely not him. I've unfortunately been around Puddle of Mudd's Wes Scantlin enough to know when someone is under some kinda influence playing. It's not a pretty sight and that performance last night was concerning especially during "Jesus Christ Pose" {View} I think I would've pulled him offstage it was that hard to watch and listen to. Plain upsetting and this USA Today article {Read} hit the nail on the head with that whole show. So until all the details and final autopsy results are released lets just showcase some good times with Chris while he was still here.

Here's a little photo slideshow dedication I did of photos I've taken of Chris:

Remember when Chris played with Tom Morillo (RATM/Audioslave) at (yes crazy) El Corazon:
Then there was the amazing Benaroya Hall performance with Temple of the Dog:

Crazy to think Layne Staley (AIC), Andrew Wood (MLB), Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) and Chris Cornell are all together now. Another sad day in Seattle music history.
