Iron Mike's Top 200 Photos & 25 CD's of 2016

February 15, 2017

Well as you can guess with how busy I am all the time shooting especially in January each year with covering NAMM (Days 1-2 Days 3-4 blogs) and my Monsters of Rock and Cruise To The Edge Cruises, it takes me a little time to compile my favorite photos and CD lists of the previous year. So 2016, what a blur that was. Can't believe we're already into 2017 with soooo many future concert announcements already clogging the 2017 calendar. You don't wanna know how many concerts and photos I took in 2016. Shot over 130 shows and more than 250 bands in 2016! For fun I'm gonna keep a real detailed list of everything I do in 2017 to report in next years blog.
For now here's my Top 200 or personal favorite photos of 2016. Many from KISW, 1077 The End and Seattle Wolf shows. Comment, Like, share: VIEW GALLERY HERE

Here' my 20min Top 200 or personal favorite photos of 2016 video featuring local Northwest artists Klover Jane, Jason Kertson, Ten Miles Wide, Ancient Warlocks and Windowpane.

Ok now onto my Top 25 most blasted CD's of 2016. Hopefully ya find something you've never heard and discover! That's what it's all about, discovering new music! Enjoy! The list of CD's below is not really in any order but I will say the first 10 listed are my Top 10 of 2016 for sure! Enjoy! "Iron" Mike Savoia

1) Beasto Blanco - Beasto Blanco - Featuring Alice Cooper's bassist Chuck Garric and daughter Calico Cooper, Beasto Blanco put on one hell of show and their albums always rock from start to finish. Favorite album of 2016. We gotta get these guys on the Pain in the Grass KISW lineup for 2017!

2) Ten Miles Wide - The Gross - Seattle own rockers Ten Miles Wide crush it with this release that highlights the always amazing songwriting and strong vocal talents of John Beckman.

3) Testament - Brotherhood of the Snake - Of the Bay-Area thrashers over the past decades no one beats Testament, their last few albums have been their best and "Brotherhood of the Snake" is mind blowing-thrash! Always been true to their roots!

4) Metal Church - IV - The return of Mike Howe to vocals has catapulted Metal Church back in the top metal ranks worldwide with the response from fans of this CD release. I gotta do the photography for the album release too which was cool in the Satsup Nuclear plant. Check out the video done there at the same time we did photos!

5) In Flames - Battles - Love this album! A newer modern version of the classic In Flames sound. Some older fans don't like it but I like change so its refreshing to me.
6) Steven Wilson - 4 1/2 - The King of modern prog-rock with a special 6-song release with awesome outtakes from his previous two incredible albums. What's funny if these are outtakes, every rock band should just hang it up ha!
7) Last In Line - Heavy Crown -
The original DIO band of Vivian Campbell (Guitars), Vinny Appice (Drums), & Jimmy Bain (Bass), with singer Andrew Freeman. What an album! Must buy! RIP Jimmy Bain.

8) Ghost - Popestar - This EP rocks with covers from Eurythmics, Echo & the Bunnymen and more but it's the original #1 Mainstream Billboard hit of "Square Hammer" that is sending this band across the mainstream.

9) Death Angel - The Evil Divide - Like Testament, Death Angel have left their fellow Bay-Area Metallica mates in the dust with "The Evil Divide". This album ROCKS!!
10) Windowpane - Welfare Line - One of the best start to finish rock albums ever released from a Seattle band. Love to see these guys get a big opening tour cause they are that close to ruling the rock world! Best twin guitar rock act on the West Coast.

Gorjira - Magma - Monstrous album from a band on a different level than most in their musical genre.

Cruel Youth - +30mg - Natalia Kills, singer Teddy Sinclair has one of those hypnotic voices I can't stop blasting my ear holes with. Great EP!

John Wesley - A Way You'll Never Be - Porcupine Tree touring guitarist John Wesley latest solo album will have ya wanting more from the mainstream prog-rock mastermind.

Anthrax - For All Kings - Might be their best album to date with Joey Belladonna.

Loudness - Samsara Flight -35th anniversary album with re-recorded songs from their classic first 3 albums (The Birthday Eve, Devil Soldier and Law of Devil's Land). Akira Takasaki is still my #1 metal guitar God! The Limited Edition version comes with an extra CD including songs like "Crazy Nights" etc.

Giraffe Tongue Orchestra - Broken Lines - This supergroup band consists of Alice In Chains vocalist William DuVall, guitarist Brent Hinds of Mastodon, lead guitarist Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Thomas Pridgen of The Mars Volta, Pete Griffin of Dethklok. Check this album out, quirky cool vibe.

Korn - The Serenity Of Suffering - Old-school Korn is back!

Saint Motel - SaintMotelevision - Indi-pop alternative proggy new-wave tropical KC and the Sunshine band-like melting pot of dreamy landscapes of a mess. That's a good thing ha!

Rev Theory - The Revelation - One of the best hard rock bands on the planet are back with a new album! Give me a Hell-Yeah!

Airbourne - Breakin' Outta Hell -  The best AC/DC not AC/DC and they are they are also from Australia...Turn it up!!!
Rotting Christ - Rituals - Surprise find release off YouTube that's amazing! It's like a soundtrack landscape for a movie with all kinds of different sounds, tribal chants and Greek instruments. Black metal band from Greece that's been around for 30 years.

Amon Amarth - Jomsviking - With Viking in my blood, always gotta have some Amon Marth Viking metal in my list. Another great album from these Swedish metal Vikings!

Megadeth - Dystopia - The fans yelled for heavier, faster and thank goodness Dave Mustaine heard because "Dystopia" crushes anything they've done in years. Also this album just brought them their first Grammy 4 days ago.

Doll Skin - In Your Face Again - Chicks rock and these teens from Phoenix, AZ managed by Megadeth's Dave Ellefson have blasted on the scene with their fun hard driving punk pop and roll blend of rock.

Metallica - Hardwired - Lets face it, the Kings of thrash metal have fallen off the thrash wagon for awhile and even though this isn't in the same league as their other Bay-Area thrasher releases its a comeback to the faster mold that's better than anything they have released in many years or decades! The fans are excited as I am! Welcome back Metallica!
