Basics with Babish

At the start of the each New Year, many of us like to make resolutions in hopes to better ourselves and keep focused. Some of these goals fail quickly; some are maintained throughout the year. But for most of us, these resolutions end up being a one day reminder of how much we love food. I know I’ve been guilty of trying to starting a diet on January 1st only to have it end around 6pm the same day with a large pizza by my side. That being said, a couple of years ago I tried a new strategy; diet for one month at a time. What does that mean? Simply put, I count calories and read every ingredient for an entire month straight. Then the next month, I relax. Usually this means eating out, enjoying some drinks, and then when it’s convenient, hopping back on the diet for another month. For me, the big problem was being dedicated. I was never the person who could diet 5 days a week and then cheat on the weekends. One slice of pizza on a Saturday it’s all over.

January is one of the months that I diet. It’s tough. But one the things that helps me get through these starving days is cooking videos. I know that sounds odd, but hear me out. Many of us have friends that join us on our diets, or at least encourage us to stay on them. What better way is there to end a diet than a celebratory potluck with all our friends. And there’s a certain “Big Game” that happens at the beginning of each February that’s perfect for a potluck. So I watch and save a bunch of cooking videos in hopes to bring the tastiest dish to the party. I’d like to say I win but my good friend Paul is quite the cook and usually outdoes me; which is a Win-Win in my book. That’s why I’m going to leave you today with a new series of cooking videos you may not have heard of called “Basics with Babish”. These videos are a great way to learn how to cook some of your favorite dishes, step by step, with vibrant video and funny commentary. The recipes are easy to follow and easy to repeat that way you can bring the best dish to your next potluck!
