Joey Deez Blog “Spider-Man: Homecoming Review”

July 14, 2017

We’ve finally made it Rock-A-Holics, It’s Friday! The weekend is right around the corner and if you’re looking for something to do I’ve got the perfect thing. If you read my blog last week then you know I got to see  “Spider-Man: Homecoming” with my dad yesterday and let me start off by saying it did not disappoint.

Tom Holland was definitely what the Spider-Man franchise was missing and feels like the most “real” Peter Parker that we’ve had. Peter’s character really struggles with the lack of time in his day to day life throughout the movie as he has to decide whether he should be an Avenger or a student. Being part of the Marvel cinematic universe helped this movie out a lot as the addition of Tony Stark gave a mentor student relationship to Spider-Man that made Peter’s decisions more believable. I think a big problem with the past Spider-Mans is that Peter always seems very isolated, even from his friends, and therefore made it hard to believe he could take down the crazy villains he was fighting. This movie focuses on an Identity Crisis more than an Origin story which makes it more thrilling and fresh.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying this is a great movie only because the story line was more about introducing Spider-Man to this new Marvel cinematic universe than it was about the Spider-Man’s journey as a hero. The villain was a bit lack luster and there are a couple of plot holes, but besides that bit of nit-picking, the movie is very enjoyable. I think that the next Spider-Man movie will be the best of all time, by a wide margin. BJ liked the movie a lot but says that he still likes the original Spider-Man a lot, maybe even more. Looks like Tobey Maguire still has one fan.

Do you have big weekend plans? Are you going to see Spider-Man? Or are you going to check out “War for the Planet of the Apes” instead?
