The Nerd Community Coming Together For Zulu's Board Game Cafe

March 29, 2019

Vicky B:

Yesterday we got some real cruddy news. One of our favorite local go-to board game joints, Zulu's Board Game Cafe, posted on their Facebook page that someone broke in and stole thousands and thousands dollars worth of Magic: The Gathering cards.

This is always sad and frustrating to see that someone was just despicable enough to do this to a "mom and pop" shop. Zulu's, like many other board gaming places, is a place for us to come together, eat, drink, and be social (which is hard for some of us) while playing games we love, so to see something like this happen is disheartening.

I can’t begin to tell you how much this sucks. It hits me so hard me hard in the feels because I’ve have may things stolen from me in the past. It leaves you feeling empty; especially when you consider how close the geeky community is. To have such a great gaming store with awesome employees, an incredibly warm and welcoming atmosphere, and some of the best food I’ve had in any café….to have this happen to them….it just sucks. Please keep an eye out for anyone trying to sell a large collection of cards or games in your local area; often times culprits of events like this will try and resell what they’ve stolen to shops close to where they live.

Vicky B:

So how do we combat something like this? We can't put on a super suit and go track them down, but we can come together as a nerd community and give them our support.

Come play and purchase games! Grab some food and drinks with friends and bust out card games. Get some Zulu's gear and rock it! Like their social media pages, and share how much blood, sweat and tears have gone into making this an awesome haven for us nerds.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is the amount of support the community shows when something like this happens. The amount of support Zulu's has received in the comments is heartwarming. Sometimes the best thing you can do in a situation like this is to simply show your support with a message. I know BJ, Vicky, and I will be showing our support by doing what we do best, gaming! Despite the break-in, Zulu’s has reopened its’ doors and is open for business! Be sure to show your support in any way you can whether it be a message, playing a game or a delicious burger!

Here are some awesome moments we've had hanging out at Zulu's!
