New Japan Pro Wrestling and DEFY Invade Tacoma

Jabroni Journal

August 22, 2019

Tacoma’s historic Temple Theater will be host to back to back nights of world class all ages pro wrestling events on Thursday and Friday (August 22nd and 23rd).

The two night stand starts on Thursday with something truly mind blowing. New Japan Pro Wrestling will kick off their 2019 Super J Cup tournament in Tacoma, Washington of all places. The sold-out event will start at 7pm and will feature the legendary Jyushin “Thunder” Liger teaming with Karl Fredericks in a tag tam match against the combination of Shota Umina and Ren Narita. Liger has announced his retirement set for the end of 2019, so this will likely be many of our last chances to see him in person.

Being that Tacoma is the first city on the 3-night tournament tour, we will be seeing eight killer first round matches to decided who goes on to round two in San Francisco.

These matches are

SHO vs. Taiji Ishimori

YOH vs.  Dragon Lee

Robbie Eagles vs. El Phantasmo

Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Jonathan Gresham

Caristico vs. BUSHI

Clark Connors vs. TJP

Rocky Romero vs. Soberano Junior

And if that stacked card isn’t enough for you to wait in line to scalp a ticket, we will be seeing a dream match between Will Ospreay and Amazing Red in the main event. That match is going to be INSANE.

For night two of this back to back extravaganza at Tacoma’s Temple Theater, DEFY is presenting “DEFYANCE FOREVER” an event that will feature a handful of the amazing stars from New Japan Pro Wrestling alongside some of the best in the Northwest and the crop of badass DEFY regulars.
