Summer Slam 2018 Predictions

Jabroni Journal

August 16, 2018

Back when I was growing up, Summer Slam was always a bittersweet event for me. Of course I was excited for the sure-to-be-epic Pay Per View, but I knew that it would be my last big hurrah of the summer and it was about time to go back to school shopping.

For the past few years now, WWE has been emphasizing Summer Slam as one of the biggest events of the year, second only to the Granddaddy of them all, WrestleMania.
To be completely honest, I wasn’t THAT stoked for this coming Sunday until I watched both Raw and Smackdown this week and realized how many great matches are on this thing. Talk about stacked!
Before I get into my predictions for Summer Slam 2018 coming up this Sunday on the WWE Network, I decided to ask a couple KISW co-workers of mine to weigh in with predictions of their own.

Steve Migs
There is so much to look forward to with this year‘s Summer Slam. First off, who would’ve thought that the majority of people would like to see The Miz beat Daniel Bryan in a match? Hell... I’m one of them. That shows how incredible The Miz has been these days.   Also, who would’ve thought a few years ago that in 2018... two men that have squared off many times in TNA would be wrestling for the title in the WWE? Samoa Joe and AJ Styles are quite possibly going to give us the match of the year, and Joe will walk out as champ.  I think we will also see Kevin Owens walk out as Universal Champion as he cashes in his MITB (that he will beat Braun for), and defeats Roman Reigns...who just beat Brock.

Here are my other winners: B team, Almas, Cedric, Finn, Shinsuke, Ziggler, Bludgeon Bros, Rousey, Becky

Sergeant Hairclub
Lesnar V Reigns – I think Reigns wins, but somehow the Shield or Heyman play a critical role. Or possibly Lashley or Owens.
Rousey over Bliss
Styles over Joe
Bludgeon Bros over the New Day, and this ends New Day
Owens over Strowman, but it won’t be clean
Ziggler over Rollins
Carmela over Becky / Charlotte, starting a Charlotte / Becky feud.
Cedric / Gulak –No Clue
Shinsuke over Hardy
Finn over Baron
Miz over DB
Almas over Rusev, starting a Rusev / English feud turning English face
Revival over B team in the biggest “Who gives a sh**” match outside of the NXT guys

Now here are my personal predictions for Summer Slam
Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns – Singles Match for the Universal Championship
This past Monday night, we saw Paul Heyman confront Reigns and talk to him about how he too knew his father and then spoke to him in Samoan. I could see this being the final straw that prompts Roman’s father, former WWE wrestler Sika Anoaʻi to attack Heyman. In the end, I have a feeling we will see Roman walking out of Brooklyn with the Championship, regardless of how many people boo him or not.
Winner: Roman Reigns (New Universal Champion)

Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Ronda Rousey – Singles Match for the Raw Women’s Championship
Ronda Rousey is a freak of nature. I haven’t seen someone come in to the WWE and take to wrestling so well since the arrival of Kurt Angle nearly 20 years ago. When Ronda is unleashed on Little Miss Bliss this Sunday night, we will see complete dominance in the ring.
Winner: Ronda Rousey (New Raw Women’s Champion)

AJ Styles (c) vs. Samoa Joe – Singles Match for the WWE Championship
This match has the potential to steal the show. This is a story that goes back to their days together in TNA. AJ Styles has had an incredible run as the number one face of Smackdown, but I see Joe taking the crown from him this Sunday night with a crushing tap out victory.
Winner: Samoa Joe (New WWE Champion)

The Bludgeon Brothers (Harper and Rowan) (c) vs. the New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, and/or Xavier Woods) – Tag Team Match for the Smackdown Tag Team Championship
As good as the New Day is, the Bludgeon Brothers have been on a killing spree since Wrestlemania and I don’t see that ending any time soon.
Winners: The Bludgeon Brothers (Retain the Smackdown Tag Team Championship)

Braun Strowman (MITB holder) vs. Kevin Owens – Singles Match for the MITB Contract
The stipulation for this match reads that if Braun is disqualified or counted out or loses on any sort of technicality; Kevin Owens will be walking out of the ring with the Money In The Bank Briefcase. For that reason alone, I think KO will pull some sneaky shenanigans that will cost Braun the briefcase. But in the end, Braun will decimate KO in the middle of the ring after the match, leaving him lying there lifeless like a pile of dust. Winner: Kevin Owens

Dolph Ziggler (c) (with Drew McIntyre) vs. Seth Rollins (with Dean Ambrose) – Singles Match for the Intercontinental Championship
The only reason I think Seth is going to lose this match is because I don’t see him wrestling in the Intercontinental division much longer. His 2018 run has been A+ and I think he is going to be one of the first challenger’s for the new Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Ziggler’s gonna win and maybe they will finish this feud off with a sweet tag team match between Ziggler/McIntyre and Rollins/Ambrose on the Monday after Summer Slam.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler (Retains the Intercontinental Championship)

Carmella (c) vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair – Triple Threat Match for the Smackdown Women’s Championship
All signs lead to Becky Lynch! Becky will channel the energy of Pearl Jam to win her first Women’s Championship in way too long. This will fuel a big one on one feud between Charlotte and Becky.
Winner: Becky Lynch (New Smackdown Women’s Champion)

Cedric Alexander (c) vs. Drew Gulak – Singles Match for the Cruiserweight Championship
I love me some Cedric Alexander, but Drew Gulak is a wrestling machine. He has gone beltless too long! Drew will tap out Cedric and steal the pre-show, for sure.
Winner: Drew Gulak (New Cruiserweight Champion)

Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Jeff Hardy – Singles Match for the United States Championship
It’s the battle of the weirdos! Jeff Hardy is a legend, but I don’t see him successfully fighting off the thunderous knee and elbow strikes of Shinsuke this time. Sorry Hardy super fans, the King of Strong Style will reign supreme on Sunday. Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura (Retains the United States Championship)

The B-Team (Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel) (c) vs. The Revival (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson) – Tag Team Match for the Raw Tag Team Championship
How is this match even on Summer Slam? I’m gonna have to go with The B-Team, as there’s no real reason to pull the rug out from them as champions just yet.
Winners: The B-Team (Retain the Raw Tag Team Championship)

Finn Bálor vs. Baron Corbin
While I haven’t been too invested in this feud so far, this match certainly has the potential to surprise a lot of us. Both of these guys are premiere athletes and have experience in big matches. I think Balor is going to come out victorious, proving to Corbin that it’s more than just size that makes a good wrestler.
Winner: Finn Bálor

Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz
Now here’s the match that I’m most looking forward to on Sunday. This match is for more than a title, it’s for respect. The grudge between these two has been building up for the better part of a decade and it’s finally going to come to a head at Summer Slam. As talented as Bryan is, I see Miz finally proving that he really is as good as he says he is….maybe he will even make him tap out with his own Yes! Lock. Now THAT would be a truly heinous act worthy of a villain like the Miz.
Winner: The Miz (yes, really)

Rusev and Lana vs. Andrade "Cien" Almas and Zelina Vega
This will be a fun mixed tag match. I can’t see this match going very long, but it will be rad to see Zelina and Lana go at it! Andrade and Vegas will win due to some sort of botched interference by Aiden English.
Winners: Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega
