Jabroni Journal: Survivor Series 2016 Predictions

Fantasy Warfare Unleashed

November 18, 2016

These past couple weeks have reminded me yet again that with all the craziness going on in the world at all times, it’s always nice to be able to have a fun outlet like pro wrestling – it gives us a chance to sit back, turn the world off for just a bit and geek out on fantasy warfare. And that’s exactly what I will be doing this Sunday as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of a Thanksgiving week tradition for wrestling fans worldwide, Survivor Series.
I’m pretty stoked to see WWE bringing back an emphasis on the traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series team matches. This was always something that separated this event from others and in the last few years we haven’t seen anything of importance placed in these matches. This year we have quite the opposite, we have been gifted three huge traditional team matches between the rival Raw and Smackdown Live teams. There are, of course a few other matches to keep things interesting – including the epic main event rematch between Goldberg and Lesnar. Let me get right down to it. This is how I see things happening on Sunday….

Intercontinental Championship Match
Champion – The Miz (Smackdown Live) vs. Challenger – Sami Zayn (RAW)
This is an interesting one. The match was originally setup to be Sami Zayn going up against the IC champion Dolph Ziggler. That was up until this Tuesday, when The Miz had an upset victory on Ziggler and regained the title once more. This Sunday’s match will determine whether the belt stays on Smackdown Live with The Miz or switches over to Raw if Sami Zayn is victorious. I would LOVE to see Sami Zayn come out on top and win his first main roster championship belt, but I don’t see the Miz losing it after just one week. That being said, Smackdown Live has been doing a great job at elevating the often overlooked mid-card title belt with the Ziggler/Miz feud and I would hate to see the belt move over to Raw and become just another thing on an already jam packed three hour program.
Winner: The Miz

Cruiserweight Championship Match
Champion – Brian Kendrick (RAW) vs. Challenger – Kalisto (Smackdown Live)

Mick Foley added a stipulation to this match last week on Raw – if Brian Kendrick loses the belt and the match to Kalisto, the entire Cruiserweight Division will make the switch and head over to the Smackdown Live brand. This adds a whole new level of excitement to the match. I personally feel like Smackdown would do a better job with the division, as it truly is the show where the talent seems to have more room to develop their characters. With a smaller roster, they give more of an emphasis on the few awesome wrestlers they do have. But that doesn’t change the fact that Brian Kendrick is having one hell of a run and I don’t realistically see Kalisto beating a guy that’s looked impressive in every match he’s had on Raw thus far. I don’t see the belt or the Cruiserweight Division going anywhere.
Winner: Brian Kendrick

Traditional 5-on-5 Women’s Division Survivor Series Match
Team Raw (Charlotte Flair, Bayley, Nia Jax, Alicia Fox and Sasha Banks – with Dana Brooke) vs. Team Smackdown Live (Nikki Bella, Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, Carmella and Naomi – with Natalya)

As much as I love Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss, there’s absolutely no denying the pure RAW talent on Raw (see what I did there?) With Charlotte, Bayley and Sasha on one team….I mean….that is just STACKED. And don’t forget the fact that they are building Nia Jax up to be a monster. I see the Smackdown Live women showing us an incredible amount of effort in a solid match, but in the end, Raw will be victorious with their behemoth of a team.
Winners: Team Raw

Traditional 5-on-5 Tag Team Survivor Series Match (5 teams vs. 5 teams)
Team Raw (The New Day, Sheamus and Cesaro, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, Enzo Amore and Big Cass and the Shining Stars) vs. Team Smackdown Live (Heath Slater and Rhyno, The Hype Bros, American Alpha, The Usos and Breezango)

On paper, it looks like Raw has the upper hand on this one – much like the women’s 5-on-5 match, their team is staaaaaaacked. But if you watch Smackdown Live on a weekly basis, you will see that they put a lot more of an emphasis on their tag team division – showcasing Smackdown as THE PLACE to be for competitive tag team action. I’m gonna go ahead and say I see Smackdown Live getting an upset victory with American Alpha looking DAMN GOOD in the process.
Winners: Team Smackdown

Traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series Match
Team Raw (Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins) vs. Team Smackdown Live (AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton and Shane McMahon – with James Ellsworth)

This match is a who’s who in the wrestling world today. There are ten huge superstars in this match and it will surely be a hell of a contest. First off, there’s no denying that Strowman will be a force to be reckoned with and will manhandle whoever gets in his way. Shane McMahon is a wildcard due to the fact that he will always pull out something wild and crazy. I could honestly see why someone would choose either side, but in the end, you can’t mess with a team that has Jericho, Reigns, Owens, Rollins and the immovable object – Strowman. I’m going with Raw.
Winners: Team Raw

Main Event
Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar

This highly anticipated match is going to be violent. Hell, it might even get a little bloody. Both these wrestlers have been known to lay their hits in and not hold back. Goldberg has looked impressive in the small amount of physicality he has shown on Raw thus far, but I don’t see WWE allowing a part timer like Goldberg to come in for a one off showcase and beat their prize horse – Brock Lesnar. This one will be gnarly and chances are it won’t be long, and in the end the Mayor of Suplex City will reign supreme.

Winner: Brock Lesnar
