All About Protein

As "all about" as a blog that's less than 500 words can be!

February 26, 2019

Today’s #NutritionTipTuesday is simply to eat more protein. Most the words in this post are going to be about WHY protein is so awesome and important, so let me just start with listing some great protein sources and you can google/pinterest/youtube roughly a billion recipes and meal ideas on your own (based on your cooking skills, taste buds, mood, etc.) Sound good?

  • Beef
  • Pork
  • Chicken
  • Turkey
  • Duck
  • WIld Game
  • Fish and other Seafood
  • Eggs and egg whites
  • Cottage Cheese
  • Greek Yogurt (some can be loaded with sugar, better off going with a plain one and adding your own fruit/granola)
  • Lentils
  • Beans
  • Tofu
  • Tempeh
  • Protein Powder/Bars

Holy s*** that’s a lot of options to experiment with if you want to get more protein in your life! Have fun.

Now, why would you want more protein in your life? You’re probably expecting me to go full meathead and talk about how it’s important for your muscles to grow. Yep, that’s true. There’s also the awesome benefits for weight loss, because it keeps you fuller for longer, and requires more energy to digest than carbs and fats. Also true, hell yeah.

The craziest thing about protein to me is that it’s what makes up our thoughts. Brain matter is mostly made up of fat, but the way our brain cells communicate with each other (that’s thinking, right?) is through these things called neurotransmitters, which are made of protein. The science behind this is just wild, trippy stuff that I have a loose grasp on.

I think I get it just well enough to appreciate the magical nature of these microscopic miracles taking place inside of us, without fully understanding all the technical stuff. When I talk to my clients about this, they are more excited to eat protein, which helps them burn fat, build muscle, and feel their best. If you’re after any or all of those things, protein is your friend! Use the list above to get more of it in your day.
