Five Essential Christmas Metal Songs

Metal Shop Suggests

December 19, 2019

No matter how hard you may try, there’s no escaping Christmas music around this time of the year. Whether you’re shopping for presents at the mall or in the waiting room to get your teeth cleaned, you’re bound to hear Santa Baby or The Little Drummer Boy at least a couple times.

This Saturday night on Metal Shop we will be presenting the metalhead’s take on these Christmas “classics.” From Rob Halford belting O Holy Night to Ronnie James Dio singing a timeless rendition of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, we’ll be decking the halls and spiking your egg nog all night long.

Here’s a bit of a taste of what you might hear on Metal Shop this Saturday night from 10pm – 2am.

Here are 5 essential Christmas metal songs:

King Diamond – No Presents For Christmas
This right here is the end all be all gold standard of Christmas metal songs. This is an absolute MUST on any Christmas metal playlist. Bow down to the King as he denies your petty Christmas list.

I Declare War – Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
Hang onto your Santa hat because this one gets gnarly. Back in 2007 Seattle brutal deathcore band I Declare War released a short Christmas EP called “Bring The Season.” Open up the pit with this punishing version of a holiday classic.

Halford – Get Into The Spirit
Nothing gets more metal than the METAL GOD himself Rob Halford, so it would be a crime not to include him on a Christmas metal playlist. Good thing he has a ton of holiday tunes to choose from! Back in October, Rob released “Celestial” a 12-song collection of Christmas themed ragers. But this wasn’t his first foray into the Christmas metal subgenre, his third solo album “Halford 3: Winter Songs” from back in 2009 is 10 more for your mix. He has plenty of renditions of classic songs, but for now let’s listen to one of his originals - Get Into The Spirit - the album opener from Halford 3.

Twisted Sister – Silver Bells
Dee Snider loves him some Christmas. Crack open a frosted Holiday-themed beverage (or a pumpkin spice latte?) and sing along to this Twisted Sister X-mas classic. You know the lyrics! Don’t even try to deny it….

August Burns Red – Carol of The Bells
Every year August Burns Red drops at least one Christmas cover to get us through the season. Enjoy this version of Carol Of The Bells from their all-Christmas themed album “Sleddin’ Hill.”
