What's up 12s!

With all the buzz of the upcoming season, Earl Thomas' future with the team, and all the new prospects, I feel something was touched on this month, but never got its proper analysis, the retirement of Kam Chancellor.

Earlier this month, Kam announced that he believed that he had played his last game in the NFL effectively retiring from the game. This of course being the result of his season ending injury back on November 9th against the Cardinals where he injured his neck bad enough to take him out for the rest of the season, and risks possible paralysis if he tries to continue to play. A lot of media outlets are calling Kam the linchpin of the Seattle defense, and a founding member of the Legion of Boom, but what Kam Chancellor was to this team is so much more than a quick 3 word catchphrase. The man was the leader of the entire Seahawks defense, and an inspirational cornerstone of the team as a whole. Whenever the team rallied together before the game, there was Chancellor in the middle of it all, firing that crew up to go out onto the field and dominate, even injured, that man made his way into the huddle to inspire and motivate. If I had my druthers, 31 would no longer be worn by a Seahawk.

That being the case, where do we go from here? Who steps up and fills the shoes? I can sit here and write week to week about how the new talent coming in is going to show the world who they are, and remind everyone that the Seahawks are the true powerhouse of the West, but behind every great team, is someone to inspire. Based on what I've seen around the team, there's a handful of men that I can see filling that slot. It's a toss up between Justin Britt, Doug Baldwin or Bobby Wagner. That being said, there is a lot of players with heart on this team (Lockett, Clark, The Griffins) but to hold the confidence of the team takes a veteran of the game. We will definitely see more as the team comes in to the season, but keep your eyes peeled, one of those 3 will take the helm.
