Migs Blog: Kirk From Metallica!

September 15, 2016

I have to geek out a second…if I could go back in time and tell the teen version of myself that one day you will meet and have conversations with some of your rock idols…I would laugh this older bald version of myself out of my room.

Over the years I have been lucky enough to chat with members of Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Everclear, Guns N Roses, KISS, Aerosmith, Rage Against The Machine, and so many other bands that defined my teen years.

I will never be jaded by this.  I am certain of that.

Over the years I have been lucky enough to interview and meet all of the members of Metallica.  Metallica is one of those bands that will forever be important to me…I’ll never forget the time my brother played the Kill Em’ All vinyl for me…to this day the artwork for the cover is one of my all time favorites.  The first time I head “Seek & Destroy”, I fell in love.

Every album after that continued to blow me away…especially Master Of Puppets, Ride The Lightning, and …And Justice For All.

I remember sitting in awe, not knowing what to think after watching their first video, for the song “One”…

I honestly could keep geeking out and sharing some of my fave songs, but this blog would be a novel.  The reason I bring all of this up is that yesterday I finally had the opportunity to talk to Kirk Hammett of Metallica.  Metallica have a new record coming out on November 18th called “Hardwired… To Self-Destruct”…when I first heard their new song, “Hardwired”, I instantly became 15 again…blasting the song over and over in my living room, as I jammed out!

I was lucky enough to meet Kirk many years ago when I interviewed Lars from Metallica.  Kirk just swung by after the interview to say “hi”, yes…he is that nice of a fella.  However, I have never had an interview to interview him, and that all changed yesterday when he called in to The MegaCast (the podcast I do with Thee Ted Smith) to chat about new book out now called out “Metallica: Back to the Front”. The book is the all about celebrating the 30 year anniversary of Master of Puppets!

While we chatted with him, I brought up the “Kids React” video, where Metallica was profiled…and it’s hilarious….and I love that Kirk saw the video & loved it too!  If you haven’t seen it…check it out:
