Robert Lang Studios

So on Monday and Tuesday I got to be a part of something incredible at an iconic recording studio.

If you watched Sonic Highways, that 8 part TV series that Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters put together, you remember the episode based in Seattle…where the Foo’s recorded a song at Robert Lang Studios.  Robert Lang Studios is based in the Richmond Beach area, and bands like the Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Sir Mix A Lot, Alice In Chains, The Presidents of The USA, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and many others have recorded there.

I always thought it was interesting that the very last song that Nirvana recorded (“You Know You’re Right”) was recorded at Bob Lang’s…and the very first Foo Fighter’s record was recorded there as well.

So on Monday I was there to record the debut EP by my new band, Bruiser Brody.  Yes…it’s a nod to my all time favorite wrestler…”The Intelligent Monster” himself!  This band originally started as a fun project that was talked about and conceived on the MigsCast, as Glenn (from Windowpane, and one of the hosts on my podcast) and I talked about how it would be cool to record some songs with some friends, and play MigsFest (October 14th at Studio Seven).

Glenn whipped up 5 songs a couple months ago, and last Wednesday we assembled with some of our buds to flesh out the songs…which we recorded on Monday & Tuesday.

Huge thanks to Scott Mckinley from CaviGold Records for arranging this, as well as Robert Lang for the hospitality.  You can get more info on Robert Lang Studios HERE.

The whole thing was a whirlwind of fun and creativity…and through it all we produced something rather special...and we got to do it at an incedible studio like Robert Lang's.

It’s funny how things can take on a life itself…like I mentioned above…this started as a “project’, but the chemistry between all five of us was so cool that it’s definitely a band…and I have to say I am very lucky to be a part of a group of such talented and awesome dudes.  The band has me on drums, Glenn Cannon  (Windowpane) on guitar and vocals, Travis Bracht (Second Coming) on vocals, Jeff Rouse (Duff McKagan’s Loaded, the Guessing Game) on bass, and JT Phillips (Klover Jane, Jar Of Flies) on guitar.

Big thanks to Jaymz Kennedy for coming down to take some pix… check it out:
