Thrill's Big Brown Blog is All In for Seattle Rock Day!

April 4, 2017

How the hell are you? Don't bother to answer because I can't hear you.

I WAS gonna go on a rant about how my 5-year-old son got in trouble after he pantsed another kid at his school...but I'll spare him...and ONLY because today is Seattle Rock Day.

Frankly, 'Seattle Rock Day' sounds a bit redundant to me since Seattle is THE rock city. Sorry Detroit...I know you have the song "Detroit Rock City" (KISS..."Destroyer", 1976), but Seattle is the Rock City.

It just is. Hasn't always been, but when Subpop Records started exposing the rest of the country to the sound coming out of Seattle, there was a paradigm shift in rock music.

The LA influence (a.k.a. HAIR "metal") had been ruining rock for most of the 80's...and for those of us who love actual rock music, it was a terrible time.

Then Seattle happened. Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam absolutely bitch-slapped the entire genre back to what it SHOULD be...and I am forever grateful for that.

And those were just the bands that enjoyed major commercial success. Screaming Trees, Mudhoney, Walking Papers, etc, etc...all of these bands have had a profound influence on rock and it's all for the better.

 OK, bitches, I'm outta here.

Until tomorrow, do what you do best and STAY BEAUTIFUL!
