5 New Year's Resolutions For Wreckreationers

Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: Your 2018 To-Do List

December 18, 2017

I can't believe how fast 2017 has flown by... I always make a New Year's Resolution or two, everything from drink more water to work out more. But I came up with some resolutions I think every Rockaholic can get behind! Check 'em out...

1. Take one hike per month. That's 12 hikes per year. Start now and map out your destinations! And if you go early in the morning, not only will you beat the crowds, but you still have the rest of the day to play. The Washington Trails Association has a great Hiking Guide where you can filter your specifications to find the perfect adventure!

2. Try 5 new breweries. We all have our favorites, and branching out can be challenging, but give at least 5 new breweries a try! You COULD even put resolution #1 and resolution #2 together - hit a new brewery after each hike! Keep tabs on area breweries through WashingtonBeer.com. It's great for searching breweries by region! Definitely check out my friends at Sumerian Brewing in Woodinville.

3. Hit 10 local shows. Supporting our local music scene feels SO good. You'll make new friends, discover new music, fall in love with cool venues and likely end up with new merch. Keep tabs on spots like Tony V's in Everett, The Crocodile in Seattle and Louie G's Pizza in Fife. They're ALWAYS bringing awesome local talent in.

4. Give a new cuisine a whirl. We're lucky to live in a region where we have MANY options in this arena. Ethiopian, Polish, Brazilian, you name it! There's a very good chance you'll fall head over heels in love with something your tastebuds had never experienced before.

5. Adopt an animal (or support a shelter if you can't adopt!). With so many adoptable critters available at any given time, you should strongly consider bringing home a new pet in 2018! We adopted our two barn cats from the Everett Animal Shelter, plus I'm a huge fan of Motley Zoo Animal Rescue in Redmond and The NOAH Center in Stanwood.

No matter what you resolve to do in 2018, I wish you a MARVELOUS New Year, Rockaholics!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
