Dog Gelato is Swell - LITERALLY!

Taryn's Wreckreation Guide

March 8, 2018

As someone who has shamelessly had birthday cakes made for my labs every year, I am all about spoiling dogs with special treats, so when I learned about dog gelato, I completely freaked out with excitement!

Meet Debbie Hendrickx, Seattle's dog gelato pioneer and owner of Swell, who after an 18-year corporate retail career decided she was ready for something new. Between her love for ice cream and her passion for dogs, an idea was born: Swell, gelato for dogs.

What started out as a solo orange gelato cart camped out at area dog parks turned into an intriguing pet product sold in local retail stores! Swell's dog friendly ingredients and high quality flavors have taken Seattle's dog lovers by storm, with humans and canines alike experiencing pure joy over Debbie's dog gelato.

Debbie tastes every batch out of the gelato machine, creating dog-drool-worthy flavors like Sweet Potato-Molasses, Banana-Peanut Butter and Pumpkin-Cheddar. You just might see these fine pup treats at a dog friendly event in the area or at your local pet store, and even some specialty grocery stores throughout the PNW. Keep an eye out for Debbie's original orange gelato cart, or check the full list of locations at

Thank you Debbie for sharing your pooch passion and dessert dreams with all of us! I can't wait for Kona and Kai to try their first Swell dog gelato. I guarantee you'll instantly have two new furry fans!

#tbt to 2016, the very first time a non Swell employee taste-tested the Swell gelato. @henrithefoxredlab gladly traded in his toy for the treat
