Rock Blog: The Pretty Reckless Honor Chris Cornell

May 22, 2017

Less than two months ago, I interviewed Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless about playing Pain In The Grass, which is now a few short weeks away. At the time, we were neck deep in the Seattle Rock Rumble, and Taylor and the band were on tour with Soundgarden.  Their final show with Chris Cornell and company was Wednesday, May 17th.

Tonight is our final show with @soundgarden at the Fox Theater in Detroit, great band, great people, wonderful crew, new family, thanks to all #tprtour2017

Back in March, when I I asked her who she thought should win, she told me that she was pulling for Soundgarden to take the first-ever Seattle Rock Rumble. I remember being so proud to be from Seattle at that moment, where a woman in rock who I looked up to was loving up on one of my favorite bands from the area.

I also asked Taylor who she would want to tour with, if ever given the chance, and she told me it was a dream she was living currently, as they were traveling and playing with Soundgarden. Turns out that like many of us, she was a superfan.

The morning of May 18th, our lives were shaken with the news of Chris Cornell's death, Taylor's included.

‪My heart is broken. Still in a state of shock. I have no words right now except my heart pours out to his beautiful family and friends.

The Pretty Reckless paid tribute to the late Chris Cornell on Saturday night in New Jersey with their cover of "Like A Stone" by Audioslave. You can hear it in her voice, the pain we are all feeling. It was beautiful and painful, all at the same time.

You can listen to my full interview with Taylor Momsen below.

We continue to mourn this great loss, and thank our Rockaholics for being here with us during an extremely difficult time.
