Rock Blog: 'Singles' Soundtrack Expanded, Reissued Friday

May 16, 2017

2017 marks the 25th anniversary of a movie and soundtrack very near and dear to the hearts of Seattleites and the music with which we have formed a deep bond. No, I am not talking about Sleepless In Seattle – that came out in 1993 and in my humble opinion, pales in comparison to the movie in reference. Of course I am spotlighting the Cameron Crowe-directed masterpiece Singles

25 years ago, Crowe, who was married to Nancy Wilson of Heart and spent a LOT of time in Seattle, was completely enamored with our exploding music scene, and he spun the magic of the movement into a film we have fawned over ever since. Singles brought some of the area’s rising stars and their legendary music to the surface for all to enjoy. This Friday, we celebrate the 25th anniversary with a reissue of the soundtrack, expanded, and everyone is reflecting back on how special it was then, and still is today.

Not only is the soundtrack a complete hit-fest, the movie featured cameo appearances by some of the members of the aforementioned bands. And some of our beloved city landmarks from the past and present are featured throughout: Jimi Hendrix’s gravesite, RCKCNDY, Pike Place Market, the Virginia Inn and Gas Works Park, just to name a few. And if you remember the scene where Janet was getting sized for new boobs? That was right here in the KISW broadcast center.

Just to give you a rundown of the greatness that is the original Singles soundtrack:

  1. “Would” – Alice In Chains
  2. “Breath” – Pearl Jam
