KISW is part of a cluster of Seattle radio stations, and last year one of our sister stations welcomed a new morning host named Emily Raines, all the way from The Peach State.

Since I work nights at The Rock and Emily works mornings at Seattle Wolf, our paths only cross a few times a month, but one thing I have learned about Emily is she's an advocate for suicide prevention and awareness.

Emily will be captaining a team at this Sunday's Out of the Darkness Walk in Seattle, and you are invited to join and support this worthy cause benefitting the lifesaving efforts of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Shinedown has stepped up to support this critical cause, too, even releasing a song called 'Get Up' which resonates with anyone who has found themselves in a difficult place in their life.

Although Emily's story is not mine to tell, I welcome you to read her blog and get to know her as a person and an advocate! I cannot express how much admiration I have for her for sharing what she and her family have experienced. I am proud of her for being a voice of hope in the community and for leading a team in this Sunday's Out of the Darkness Walk in Seattle

Rockaholics, please consider walking this weekend or donating to help the AFSP invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. Let's continue to end the stigma of talking about metal health!

If you are in crisis, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or contact the Crisis Text Lineby texting TALK to 741741.
