Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: 4th Of July Roadtrippin'

July 5, 2016

This weekend was AWESOME! We put a LOT of miles on the ol' Kia Sorrento to go see my dear friend Catherine get married to Chris at the top of Schweitzer Mountain Resort in Sandpoint, ID.

The 5:45 wake-up call came EARLY on Saturday morning, but we shoved off at 6:30 and made our way east on I-90! I'm telling you - waiting and leaving Saturday was the way to do it. Friday's traffic was as hellish as could be on a holiday weekend. We made it in time to get settled at the lodge in a gorgeous room before heading up the chairlift for the wedding ceremony. Not only is the resort itself beautiful, but the views on the way up and down this time of year were absolutely breathtaking!

What a COOL spot to get married. The reception afterward was right down at the bottom of the chairlift, and we could look up and map out our future wintertime runs!

In the morning, we shoved off to drive about 45 minutes down to Laclede, ID to camp out on Pend Oreille River with my sister and her friend's family. It was an incredible spot for swimming, sun-bathing, and watching fireworks.

After packing up camp yesterday morning, we decided to drive the North Cascades Highway back home to take in some unbelievable views of Lake Diablo, Ross Lake, and a million other beautiful landmarks along the way.

I'm so happy we took the long way home! The North Cascades Highway is one of my favorite places in the entire world. Yes, it added about an hour and 45 minutes to our drive home, but we had the most spectacular views the whole way back and ZERO traffic congestion! Who can argue with that decision?! I hope you all had a most excellent holiday weekend my loves. Cheers!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
