Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: 7 Tips for #Redfest2016

June 23, 2016

#Redfest2016 will be my 3rd Redfest, and I couldn't be any more excited than I am! No exaggeration - it is one of my FAVORITE days of the entire summer and I look forward to it all year long. As a veteran of all things Outdoor Drinking at Elysian - Airport Way, I thought I'd bestow a bit of wisdom upon my first timers, and a little refresher for my fellow repeat offenders:

1.  Wear sunscreen. If you forget, come find me. I'll be the ginger toting around a giant bottle of SPF 50 in my purse and I'm always happy to share to keep your skin safe from the sun's harmful rays! According to Saturday's weather forecast, we're going to need to slather it on.

2.  Hydrate before, during, and after. It's a marathon, not a sprint. I'll be honest - I tend to "forget" about this tip about 1/2 way through the day, so feel free to remind me at some point! My advice - wake up Saturday and drink a big ol' glass of water before you even start drinking your coffee. Drink a little water between beers during #Redfest2016. Drink some more water when you get home, or upon arriving at the next destination.

3. Take pictures. Just in case things do get a little foggy... you'll always have the photos to refresh your memory! Use #Redfest2016 when posting to Instagram and Twitter so we can check out your pics! Make sure to cozy up to the KISW Rock Girls for the obligatory "I hung out with the Rock Girls" pic. Your #Redfest2016 experience won't be complete without it!

4. Try new things. Whether it's a new beer like the Bourbon Barrel-Aged Bifrost, or your first Men's Room Original Sausage, take advantage of the spread and branch out from your norm!

5. Rock out. It'll be hard not to, with Rest, Repose; Stoned Evergreen Travelers; and SUPERFEKTA! These are three of the most kick ass local bands I've ever had the pleasure of seeing live, so get up close and personal, throw up your horns, and give these bands some major PNW love.

6. Practice the Men's Room Shot of the Day chant. It's going to happen. You probably already know it by heart, but if you're bringing someone who might be unfamiliar, make sure they are prepared:

"We pour this booze and we drink this booze because we think it's yummy (YUMMY!!!!)... so over the tongue and down the throat to party in our tummies. DOWN THE HOLE-A BITCHOLA!"

7. Get home safe. I mean that. Make sure you have a designated driver in your squad or a plan to take an Uber home after the event. Use the promo code FAST to get a good deal!

Those are my BIGGEST pieces of advice for #Redfest2016! Also, remember to be cool and have the time of your life!! See you all on Saturday, and thank you for helping The Fisher House! If you still need tickets, there are a few left here. Hurry before it sells out!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
