Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: The Area's Best Small Venues

October 6, 2016

It's no secret that Seattle and its surrounding area is home to some of the biggest world-class venues around, but we're also VERY lucky to have dozens and dozens of smaller venues in our communities. If I listed all of them, I'd be here all night, so I highlighted a few favorites and included some upcoming shows you might want to catch if you're looking to check out a new spot! Here are 5 fantastic local spots that I've been known to frequent:

1. Mirkwood Public House - Arlington, WA: Owned and operated by husband and wife team Heather and Anthony Beck (who you might recognize as members of Skablins), the Mirkwood has been bringing incredibly talented and popular bands to the north end for YEARS! The building looks like the Alamo and even features a tattoo parlor INSIDE the venue! If you're looking to check it out this weekend, I highly recommend heading to the WOODSHED Album Release Party.

2. Studio Seven - Seattle, WA: This venue has been bringing some of the biggest national rock acts to the big city in a more intimate setting. I'm a huge fan of hanging out upstairs (that's where the bar is, of course) because the view from the balcony above is STELLAR. If you want to celebrate Steve Migs' birthday this weekend, head to Studio Seven this weekend for Windowpane, Ten Miles Wide, Klover Jane, & More!

3. Wild Buffalo - Bellingham, WA: Some of my favorite funk bands have played here over the years, including Five Alarm Funk and Pimps of Joytime. I've even had my birthday party at "The Buff" a few times! They always have great craft beer on tap and awesome bands playing. A group I really dig is playing there on Sunday, so check out Nahko and Medicine for the People at Wild Buffalo if you're able!

4. Jazzbones - Tacoma, WA: Every south-ender has probably been to a rad show at Jazzbones! They're always bringing in KISW Loud & Local favorites, so keep an eye on the caledar for some of the bands we dig the most. Next Saturday, you can catch Mechanism, Mom's Rocket, Crawl and Anti Hero at Jazzbones!

5. Tony V's Garage - Everett, WA: I used to live a stone's throw from Tony V's and LOVED to check out bands here. They've had a wide array of local and national bands come through and rock Everett, but I highly recommend a show two Fridays from now, Skablins, Hard Money Saints, and Timmy Tombstone on 10/21!

See you at the shows, Rockaholics!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
