Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: Babes, Beers, & Bend

June 6, 2016

What a weekend! My girlfriend Catherine is getting married in July, so Friday through Sunday I was in Bend, OR for her Bachelorette Party. Shout out to her girlfriend Sarah who researched and found Brasada Ranch, where 14 of us stayed in two GORGEOUS cabins at the resort. This place was INSANE and I will definitely be back. We had leather couches, a full kitchen, refrigerators and private bathrooms for each bedroom. We even had a porch off each bedroom AND a hot tub on the balcony at each cabin! We looked out over the golf course, and only heckled the golfers a few times (you can blame the mimosas)...

On Friday afternoon, we spent a lot of time pool side getting to know each other. The bulk of the group were WSU Cougar Alum (YEAH BABY!), so GO COUGS! The temps were in the 80s, and the surrounding views of the mountains were absolutely enchanting.

Later that night, we had dinner at one of two restaurants on-site called The Ranch House. We sat outside and watched a beautiful central Oregon sunset. They had a fire going with a s'mores station, too!

I'm not allowed to talk about what happened later that night. Kind of like Fight Club, the first rule of Bachelorette Parties is don't talk about Bachelorette Parties...

Saturday morning we woke up and took a shuttle into downtown Bend. Our first stop was McMenamins for lunch, where I DESPERATELY needed a Bloody Mary for a solid recovery. It was on point. From there, we hit the Saturday Farmers Market, browsed some shops and guzzled coffee to help get us back to firing on all cylinders, eventually ending up at Deschutes Brewery! I was SO stoked to visit the original Public House! I had two Fresh Squeezed IPAs, which are even better when enjoyed at the source. I'm literally drooling just typing about it.

We had dinner reservations at a fantastic steak house called The Blacksmith, where everything on the menu was SCREAMING my name, but I ended up going with the salmon. It was AWESOME and I was thrilled with my decision, although it was a tough one. On top of the dinner menu, the wine and beer offerings were spot on.

From there, we ventured to a few local bars - The Summit, The Capitol, and rounding out the night with IMPRESSIVE line-dancing at a country bar called Maverick's, although only one of us was brave enough to jump in... this place offers weekly dance lessons and the skill level of those on the dance floor was BANANAS. I have never seen such challenging choreography! I had serious dance-envy. Props to our lone dancer, Val, who looked like she'd been doing it her whole life, while the rest of us looked on with our jaws on the floor. ;)

We took off from there and shuttled back to Brasada for some late-night hot tubbing and star gazing. It was a LONG day so it felt good to soak and wind down after a venue-hopping marathon!

Those of us with the later flights spent a few hours at the resort's pool the next day recovering, eating, and drinking.

Before we left for the airport, we hit Brasada's other restaurant, Range. We celebrated Catherine with some champagne and an early dinner before our flight.

We really didn't want to go. The entire resort was SUPERB and I'd go back again in a heartbeat! And with the flight from SeaTac being under an hour, it's super convenient for a weekend getaway. I just wish we had more time! There was so much to do and see. We crammed as much into 3 days as we possibly could, and now it's time for Catherine to get hitched! Thanks to all the lovely ladies for an awesome adventure!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
