Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: The Best New Breweries & Their IPAs

February 15, 2017

New Year, new brews, my friends! It's no secret that Washington is home to some of the BEST craft breweries in the country, and of course we all have our favorites, but I challenge you to check out some of the newer breweries to hit the PNW! These four seriously grabbed my attention:

20 Corners Brewing opened in Woodinville last summer by founders Andrew Davis and Vern Olson who shared a dream of brewing beer and protecting our environment simultaneously. They're big into two things I love - beer and the outdoors - so naturally, I'm a fan. Still inside their first full year of operation, they've gained a massive following and a ton of attention for their commitment to the craft.

Be sure to try: Their flagship IPA . Autonomous (which is now on tap up at Stevens Pass, fellow powder hounds!) clocks in at 7.2% ABV and 75 IBUs. Take it in a Crowler to go for the weekend!

Perihelion Brewery is celebrating their first year of operation in Seattle this month! CONGRATS! With a passion for Belgian-style ales, brewmaster Les McAuliffe serves up 11 craft beers and a cider for your sipping pleasure. Music Tuesdays are a great time to visit the Beacon Hill brewery and enjoy live tunes while you sample their beers. Plus, dogs can join their owners on the patio!

Be sure to try: The '36' IPA. Named for a bus that passes by the brewery all day every day, it's truly an "every day IPA", and not just a clever name! At 5.1% ABV, you can sip a few without that sleepy IPA effect I know so well. :)

Gruff Brewing is new to the growing craft brew community in Bellingham, and after a few years of hard work, they opened in late Summer 2016. With a hyper-focus on local ingredients and unique recipes, you'll love their high-quality beers and PNW vibes. They're also proud to be a dog friendly establishment, and you know that makes me happy! Load up the pups and venture to Whatcom County's newest nano-brewery!

Be sure to try: The East Coast IPA. Hovering around 6% ABV, it's a magical brew with a slightly sweet front end and a bittery back end.

Four Generals Brewing opened last summer and is truly a home brewer's tale of success. Beginning operations in the kitchen, moving to the backyard, and eventually taking up space in the garage, the increase in his beers' popularity led brewmaster Ross Hudspeth to business ownership in downtown Renton.

Be sure to try: The West Coast Style IPA with 7.4% ABV and 82.4 IBUs, making this hoppy craft beer a Northwest favorite!

I am SO proud to be from an area that's constantly inventing and reinventing craft beer, and just when you think we've reached our limit, incredible new breweries are popping up everywhere! If a new spot hits your town, please send me an email with the scoop so I can go check it out! Cheers, Rockaholics!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
