Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: A Box For ME!

March 10, 2017

It seems like there's a box for everyone these days. The beer lover, the coffee fiend, hell, even our dogs can get a box delivered to them. I never felt compelled to try one out... until now! I stumbled upon Cairn on Instagram recently, and I immediately knew I had found "my" box.

Cairn boxes take inspiration from the outdoors, which happens to be a huge part of my life and the way I live it. If you have ever read my Wreckreation Guide before, you already know that. :) Whether it's hanging out in the yard with the dogs and chickens, riding my bike on the Centennial Trail, skiing at Mt. Baker, or hiking off Mountain Loop Highway, I am ALWAYS outside! This box was truly my calling.

When you sign up for a subscription, they ask you a TON of stuff about yourself and your interests. They even ask if you have a dog! One of the things I really liked is they had a list of recreational activities and types of outdoor exercise one might engage in, and you rank the ones you're into from top to bottom. Then, their staff in Bend, Oregon really get an idea of who you are and how you live your life. Based on those findings, Cairn will send you a box of outdoor products tailored to your interests. It could be anything from gear and apparel to food and camping essentials.

Repost from Cairn Trail Blazer @nicolehandel: “The outdoors isn't going to explore itself, and type II fun is the best fun. So, with a little help from some of this month's @getcairn box items, we set out and did the damn thing. And had a phenomenal adventure, as always.” Share your Cairn photos with us with #cairnrocks!

Last night when I got home from work, my first Cairn box had arrived! I was SO excited, I immediately opened it and was SO stoked with the contents!

Inside my first box was a new pair of high-quality Home School boot socks for skiing. Low and behold, I'll be up at Mt. Baker this weekend! I swear, I think I've had my old pair of boot socks for a decade. Really excited about this upgrade!

For my sweet tooth, there were two bars of Salazon Chocolate Co. delights. These will be great to pack along on a hike in the coming days. I always love a sweet treet at the top because I earned it, dammit!

Probably my favorite item in the entire box was teh HexFlex Adventure Tool, which EVERYONE should have for winter sports. All the tools you need to repair or reinforce your gear is on this rad snowflake! This will definitely be in tow Sunday at Baker.

With spring rapidly approaching, I am so eager to see what will come next month. Not only is this box tailored to my personal recreational interests, it's also a great motivator to continue loving the outdoors and appreciating all the PNW has to offer. Thank you, Cairn, for being "my" box!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
