Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: Distillery Love!

April 28, 2016

We live in the mecca of micro-breweries in the PNW, and as a lover of IPAs, I feel spoiled rotten by our beer scene! However, our brewers are not the only ones creating delicious adult beverages... We're now finding INCREDIBLE local distilleries stepping into the scene and furthering our passion for drinking PNW delights! Recently, I have fallen head-over-heels for some of our amazing local distillers and their innovations.

If you live in the north end, you've got to check out Valley Shine Distillery. They're out of Mt. Vernon and they have one of the most beautiful spaces I've ever seen! Their place is warm and inviting and they put so much love into their products. Benjamin and Stacey Lazowski are the owners, and they've brought a very special vibe to Tulip Town! Stop in this weekend and you can try all 7 spirits for $5. Definitely love the Limoncello! I'm planning to go there this Sunday afternoon, so if you're in the area, come say hi and enjoy some tastes with me!

For those in the city, I'm all about Fremont Mischief Distillery. Not only are they behind Workers #9 Vodka, which raises money for the Washington State Council of Firefighters, they were at Bourbon & Bacon Fest this year and I FREAKED OUT when I tried their John Jacob Rye Whiskey! Had to go back for seconds...and thirds... But really, to get the full experience, you have to visit their facility or their tasting room. It's quirky and fun and the people are AMAZING! And have you seen the Mischief Mobile?!

For those south of Seattle, definitely check out Heritage Distilling Company in Gig Harbor. My sister and her boyfriend just visited last month after I recommended they check it out, and they LOADED UP on HDC spirits. :) This past Seahawks Season, I had my lady-bros over for bloody marys for a 10am game, and we had HDC's Bacon Vodka and their Ghost Pepper Vodka. They were both HUGE hits with my girlfriends! I am a huge fan of infused and flavored vodkas for both drinking AND cooking, and both of these are home runs if you're like me.

Drink local, Rockaholics! Support your PNW distilleries and ALWAYS drink responsibly :)

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
