Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: Dog-Friendly Beaches

June 20, 2016

Living with two labs, we often have to spell words like B-E-A-C-H and L-A-K-E because they're wired for S-W-I-M-M-I-N-G! Finding great off-leash areas where they can also go swimming can be a bit challenging, but I wanted to share our go-to, Fido-friendly doggy-paddle spots!

Edmonds Marina Beach Off-Leash Dog Park gives your pup access to the Puget Sound for all sorts of playtime on the beach and in the water. It's partially fenced off to keep the dogs in their own area, and the views are amazing! There is even a little rinsing area so you can get all that salt water off the pups before they get back in the car.

Double Bluff Off-Leash Dog Beach in Freeland is an incredible spot on Whidbey Island that your dogs will go CRAZY for. It's a 2-mile stretch of beach where they can fun and frolic and swim and be dogs! This fabulous beach also has a rinsing station so you can clean up those puppy paws before heading home.

Westport Beach on the WA coast invites your dogs to frolic off-leash at South Beach, with miles and miles of sand to explore! The sunsets here are incredible, and your doggies will be totally wiped out after all the open space they'll enjoy.

Lake Padden Park in Bellingham has an off-leash swimming area for dogs right near the ball fields. Our older lab Kona loves to launch herself off of the rocks into the lake to retrieve tennis balls! Just a few steps from the swimming hole are the off-leash hiking trails, so feel free to explore it all!

Do you know a good spot for taking your dogs for a swim? I'm always looking for new places to take Kona and Kai, so email me the details!

Happy Adventuring,
