Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: Dogs On Deployment

June 22, 2017

Living in an area filled with men and women who serve our country, we are all familiar with the reality that deployments separate them from their friends and family members. On top of that, military members are often leaving behind a four-legged friend. Now personally, I struggle to leave my dogs behind for a weekend with a dog sitter. Imagine trying to find care for your fur baby for months on end. As a dog person myself, I was completely touched and blown away when I learned about Dogs On Deployment

Dogs On Deployment is an incredible non-profit organization dedicated to pairing volunteers with dogs while their owners fulfill their service commitments with the military. This online network encourages life-long pet ownership by military pet owners all over the country by fighting for their rights as pet owners, providing resources and even financial support for those members of the military during times of need. Not only does this group of incredible volunteers help the humans involved, they're changing the lives of their pets as well.

If you think about it, it's probably quite common for someone to join the military, be stationed away from home, bring a pet into their lives for companionship, and then have their deployment take them away for some period of time. If there are no friends or family members in the area, that could be an extremely stressful situation to be in. Who do you turn to?? At one point, there wasn't an answer to that question. But today, we have Dogs On Deployment

Since the organization was founded, at least 1,085 pets have found temporary care in the homes of Dogs On Deployment boarders during their owner's time away. Through deployments, Wounded Warrior help, and veterans' assistance, these loving pets were welcomed into the homes of volunteers so their owners could stay focused on serving our country.

These incredible success stories would not be possible without the help of donors and sponsors. Consider making a donation to support the mission of Dogs On Deployment! There will be local events in our communities VERY soon to further the mission of their work - more to come!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
