Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: A Guide To Local Distilleries

February 10, 2017

If you're even slightly familiar with my Wreckreation Guide, you know I'm an IPA junkie with a soft spot for craft beer. I talk breweries all the time, and for good reason - some of the best beer in the world is crafted right here in our PNW backyard.

But I like whiskey, too. Also vodka. Also gin. Also... you get the picture... so here are a few distilleries (whiskey, gin, vodka and otherwise) in and around the Seattle area you should check out when you're looking for a swig of the strong stuff.

Westland Distillery
Seattle: SoDo

Don’t leave before you try: Garryana, though you probably won’t be able to. It’s difficult to get your hands on a bottle (or even a glass) of this single malt whiskey that is aged in casks of Garry oak from here in the PNW, as its first batch was a limited release. The flavor of each batch is going to be evolving as the crew at Westland continues to experiment with the wood. If you can’t get the Garryana, try the Sherry Wood.

Bottles are arriving, excitement is building, the wait is nearly over... #garryana #sınglemaltwhiskey

Chambers Bay Distillery
Tacoma: University Place

Don’t leave before you try: Greenhorn Bourbon. You can find it in Seattle at Polar Bar (in the Arctic Club) or The Whiskey Bar. The guys from Chambers Bay set out to make good bourbon, then branched out, so the Greenhorn is where it begins (and it’s 100% PNW, as well).

Available at our tasting room, these gift boxes include a 375ml bottle of gold medal award-winning Greenhorn bourbon, a CBD Glencairn whiskey glass, and CBD floatie key chain.

Batch 206
Seattle: Interbay

Don’t leave before you try: Counter Gin. It was named one of the 11 must-try gins in the U.S. by Wine Enthusiast in 2014 and is pretty damn good by itself, but you can try it with tonic if straight gin isn’t your thing.

This. @jesslynbh knows how #cocktailhour with the makings of her Counter Gin basil gimlet.

Sun Liquor
Seattle: Capitol Hill

Don’t leave before you try: Sun Rum Silver. With the wicked winter weather we've experienced these past few days (snow... heavy rain... whipping winds...), let your taste buds take the Carribbean vacation your body craves. Daiquiris, anyone?

Valley Shine Distillery

Mt. Vernon: Downtown

Don't leave before you try: Bonfire Toffee Liqueur. I brought my first bottle home right after they opened and it went FAST. Put this in your weekend cup of coffee or pour it over ice and sip it down around a - you guessed it - bonfire!

3 Howls Distillery
Seattle: SoDo

Don’t leave before you try: Hopped Flavored Whiskey. Hops in whiskey? You know that grabbed my attention. Sounds weird, but stay with me. While unusual, you’ll want to try the unique spirit that’s layered with PNW hops with beer-like notes that go down smooth.

Fremont Mischief
Seattle: Fremont

Don’t leave before you try: Fremont Mischief Vodka. It just won best vodka of 2016 in the Northwest! They've always brought this spirit to both Tequila & Taco Fest and Bourbon & Bacon Fest, so I've sipped her down quite happily MANY times.

Still obsessing over our new labels. #seattle #vodka #distillery #craftspirits #intosomemischief #label #design #liquor #bar #fremont

If you know a great local distillery, by all means LET ME KNOW about them! Send me an email so I can check their goods out myself. Cheers to the weekend, and I hope to see your smiling faces at Bourbon & Bacon Fest on March 11th!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
