Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: Haunted Places to Visit in WA

October 5, 2016

Do you believe in ghosts? Do you buy into paranormal activity? Do you think supernatural energy exists? If you answered NO to any of these questions, I challenge you to pay a visit to any of these 5 places in Western WA, then answer those three questions again. I have been to all of them, and had a few unique experiences at . In the spirit of Halloween season, beware...

1. Outlook Inn - Eastsound, Orcas Island, WA: When I worked for the American Cancer Society, I used to stay here when I was visiting Orcas Island. From the photos on the wall to the creaky hallways, you definitely feel a presence of something. What that something might be, I cannot answer for you. One night during the winter when I was staying there alone (and I mean TOTALLY alone, as the person at the front desk informed me I was their only guest for the night!!), I heard what sounded like someone RUNNING up and down the hallways. It was absolutely terrifying, and naturally, I didn't sleep a wink!

2. Oxford Saloon - Snohomish, WA: My dad's band plays here, and I am fairly certain we've had ghosts dancing among us late at night! Multiple paranormal investigations have been performed here and they were able to pick up EVPs, or Electric Voice Phenomena. A police officer named Henry was reportedly murdered on the property when he tried to break up a fight, one of many major outbreaks of violence at the Oxford back in the day. Some claim to have seen the ghost of Henry on the staircase and in the women's bathroom.

3. Northern State Mental Hospital - Sedro Woolley, WA: Northern State housed a few thousand patients, many of whom died during controversial treatments and experiments. There have been MANY ghost sightings here, and it's reported that patients buried in the Northerns State Cemetery still haunt the grounds.

4. Rucker Mansion - Everett, WA: I used to live a few blocks north of this place and I would drive or walk by it frequently. There was always something strange about it, but maybe I worked that up in my mind after hearing the stories. According to rumors, the ghost of Mrs. Rucker haunts the home. She jumped out of the bedroom window and died many years ago, and some say her ghost still haunts the home. Witnesses claim they have heard her playing piano!

Because who doesn't love haunted mansions in October? #vscocam #vsco #hauntedmansion #ruckermansion

5. Kells Irish Pub - Seattle, WA: Kells is located in the Butterworth Building near Pike Place, and it's one of my favorite bars for pre-funking a rock concert in the city. It's also been featured on TV's 'Ghost Adventures'. Records show that many died at this location back in the early 1900s due to mining accidents and disease. Some employees and patrons claim to have seen the ghost of a little girl on the property. Check out the full episode of 'Ghost Adventures' if you're skeptical...

For those who really dig paranormal activity, you'll want to check out Beyond Reality Radio. Trust me - it's captivating!

If you think you can handle it, pay these places a visit during the month of October and let me know if you have any interesting experiences! And if you have another haunted place in mind, leave the details in the comments. Muahahahahaha!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
