Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: Have You Put THIS In Your Coffee?

March 22, 2017

I'm shamelessly addicted to coffee. Not in the sense that I drink it all day, but it's definitely a part of my daily routine. I don't believe I'm ready to mingle with the living until I've had my morning cup. Maybe two. And 99.9% of the time, I drink it black. Until just recently...

I've been turned on to a few new coffee additives that have REALLY changed my morning Cup O' Joe. Aside from whiskey or Irish Cream (I reserve those extras for weekends), these are two things you need to start putting in your java if you haven't already:

1. Honey. Which seems PERFECTLY normal when I'm talking about my afternoon cup of tea, but COFFEE?! I was extremely skeptical until a recent trip to ski Mt. Baker. My brother's girlfriend packed a giant thermos of black coffee with honey in it. And it was DELIGHTFUL! Apparently, this isn't "new" either...

For those who put sugar in their coffee already, you might try swapping it out for honey. Honey is slightly sweeter, so you might find yourself using less honey than you would sugar. Plus, if you use a local, raw honey, it can actually provide added allergy relief! Unlike sugar, it also contains antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and antibacterial properties. Give it a try!

2. Butter. Does that freak you out a little bit? It certainly had me perplexed when my girlfriend told me about this trend. I rarely use butter in the first place, but for some reason it works magic in your coffee. But I'm not talking about ANY butter. You'll want to try unsalted, grass-fed butter.

Many people are blending coffee, butter and coconut oil, but you can just stir in a tablespoon or two. Word on the street? It's the perfect ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids and is a good source of Vitamin K. It is creamy and delightful, basically replacing any creamer you've been using! Kind of like a cheap latte on the healthy side.

Give these a whirl this week, and hit me up with an email sharing your thoughts!

Happy Adventuring,
