Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: Life Hacks To Beat The Heat

August 18, 2016

It's pretty damn hot out there, and I'm guessing 80% of us in Western Washington do not have air conditioning at home. Beating the heat is a STRUGGLE, but I have four life hacks to help you out!

1. Freeze wet sponges. It basically serves as a dripless ice pack! Take a few, wet them, and keep them in your freezer. You'll be super happy to have one of these on the go. They don't drip like ice, and you can throw it on your forehead or the back of your neck for a refreshing cold compress!

2. Frozen water bottles + a fan = cheap air conditioning. Freeze some water bottles and tie them to the BACK of your fan with ribbon or twine. The icy bottles cool the air that is being sucked into the fan to take the air down a few degrees. Worth the trouble!

3. Ice down your drink. Sometimes we can't get ice into the vessel from which we are drinking (cough, cough - beer bottles). Instead, wet a napkin, wrap it around the bottle, and stick it in the freezer for 15 minutes. It's gonna change your world!

4. EAT SPICY FOODS! Don't believe me? Well, why do you think some of the spiciest foods we eat come from some of the hottest climates in the world? It's because eating them increases your perspiration which actually helps cool you down. Sounds crazy, huh? It's not - it works wonders!

Do you have a life hack for keeping cool that I should know about? Shoot me an email or post in the comments below!

Happy Adventuring,
