Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: 'Little Wing' Phase of Jimi Hendrix Park OPEN!

October 7, 2016

Today is a BIG day for Seattle, my friends! After six years of planning, fundraising and construction, Phase 1 of Jimi Hendrix Park is officially open to the public.

This beautiful community space, inspired by the music and life of Jimi Hendrix, includes 2.5 acres of green lawns, iconic musical themes, gorgeous walkways, and other artistic features. Seattle Parks and Recreation and Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation collaborated to bring this creative dream to reality in Seattle's Central District, and opening weekend is finally here!  You should definitely visit the park this weekend, take lots of photos and enjoy this new space in memory of Jimi Hendrix. You'll find the address and a map here

This is in large part due to the support from YOU, our Rockaholics. Remember the Jimi Hendrix 'I Am Experienced' t-shirt you bought from the KISW the Rock Shop? The net proceeds have gone towards bringing this commemorative gathering place to life, and as a result, the 'Little Wing' phase has opened!

Phase 1 is absolutely incredible and will be enjoyed by hundreds, if not thousands, over opening weekend, but Jimi Hendrix Park is not finished. Phase 2 'Are You Experienced?' is next, and Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation is looking to raise $329,000 for her construction. The second phase will include a musical amphitheater for live performances with a beautiful colorful canopy and silhouette images of Jimi Hendrix. 'Are You Experienced?' is expected to have its grand opening in the summer.

You can make a direct donation to support the next phase, order the Jimi Hendrix T-Shirt from the KISW Rock Shop, or share the information to spread the word. Everything counts! Thanks again, Rockaholics.

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
