Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: My 1st Sounders Match!

May 23, 2016

I finally did it. Yup. I went to my first Sounders game this weekend!

I have always been a huge fan of competitive sports. Growing up in the area, my family always rooted for the Seahawks, Mariners, Sonics, Silvertips, Aquasox and went to LOTS of games... But until Saturday I had never experienced the Sounders. I played soccer for half my life and I really enjoy it, but I don't follow soccer as closely as most of the folks I work with. Thee Ted Smith ended up with a couple extra tickets to Saturday night's game, so Brad and I said, "Okay!"

We took the Sounder Train down from Everett and it was a gorgeous ride along the water. We had to have seen about 15 blue herons on the way to the stadium.  And for $10/each round trip, you really can't beat the price! Parking alone costs $20 in most lots, and you also have to deal with the traffic and gas prices... so why not let someone else do the driving on a SUPER scenic route?!

We went to the The Hawks Nest Bar & Grill before hand and met up with Ted, Steve Migs, Sergeant Hairclub, Ryan Castle, and Miles. I got the skinny on what to expect once we got inside CenturyLink. We sat with Ted and his group of Sounders fanatics. The guys we met were SO kind and answered all of my questions about scarves and flags and singing.

At halftime we had to get some Mens Room Original Sausage, of course, thanks to Uli's Famous Sausage having a stand out in the concourse! They put roasted bell peppers and stone ground mustard on that bad boy. It was HEAVENLY!!!

I have to say... for me one of the most impressive observations of the evening was the Emerald City Supporters section. DAMN! They didn't stop moving, singing, swaying, jumping, yelling, or waving flags the ENTIRE game. Aren't the players on the field supposed to be sweating the most? Getting the workout?! WOW, that was pretty fun to watch. I don't think I would survive that, but more power to the crew on the Brougham End.

All in all, I had a great first experience with the Seattle Sounders and would definitely go back again this season! Big thanks to Ted for showing us the ropes. I am no longer a Sounders virgin!!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
