Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: One-Tank-Trip To Ross Lake

July 10, 2017

Without question, my favorite area in all of Washington State is the North Cascades Highway. The perfect one-tank-trip? Ross Lake Resort in Rockport. BUT, you'll need to book your trip NOW for 2018. That's how special the experience truly is.

12 delightful cabins are nestled together, floating atop Ross Lake with sweeping views of the North Cascades.

PNW proving once again that it really is the best

To add to the adventure, it's important you know that you aren't able to simply drive to these cabins. There is no road access (don't panic!), but there are two ways to get to Ross Lake Resort from Highway 20. You're able to hike to the resort...

Hiked a mile, took a water taxi, and came to this place. Check off my bucket list! The resort to get breath taking views and enjoy nature in peace. And of course bring wine/beer. Chatted with the guys that are sitting and have been coming to this resort for the past three years now and love every minute of it. I would too if I was them. . . . . . . . . . #lifeofadventure #exploretocreate #wildernessculture #thegreatoutdoors #liveauthentic #backpacker #traveler #wanderlust #hikingadventures #adventure #wilderness #optoutside #getoutstayout #natureshots #naturegram #pnwfeed #travelgram #pnw #washingtonstate #pacificnw #nwisbest #evergreenstate #westcoastbestcoast #pacificnorthwestisbest #westcoastlife #northwest #upperleftusa #pnwonderland #pnwlife #pnwcollective

...or take the Diablo Lake Ferry, which meets up with the Ross Lake Resort Truck.

The reason I fell in love with this area when I was young was simply the color of the water. Ross Lake is this insanely turquoise hue you must see to truly believe. It's also worth noting that it's COLD AS CAN BE! But it's one of the most refreshing swims offered in all of the state. The water is pure, glacial and will instantly pull you out of a hangover ;)

On top of that, the hiking throughout the area is unmatched. This map should provide you with plenty of inspiration!

Even if you're not able to stay at Ross Lake Resort this summer, there's PLENTY of camping to be done nearby. My personal favorite is Colonial Creek. Get out and enjoy all that the North Cascades have to offer! The highway closes back up in the fall, so plan your trip right away!

Happy Adventuring,
