Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: Seattle's 2017 Hit-List

December 6, 2016

Although I'm the lone "north-ender" here at The Rock, Seattle is where I hang out a minimum of five days a week! I'm a commuting fool, like many of you. There are NINE things coming up in the big city and it's surrounding communities in 2017 that I am really excited to check out, and I wanted to pass along a hit-list for the New Year!

  1. The expanded portion of Pike Place Market is scheduled to open in mid-2017! Ground has been broken for the new MarketFront, a .75-acre, 30,000-square-foot public terrace and plaza that will expand the western flank of Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market. When completed in summer 2017, MarketFront will open panoramic views of Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains, create space for 47 new day stall tables for farmers, crafters and artists, as well as 12,000-square-feet of commercial and retail space for artisan purveyors and 40 low-income housing units for seniors.
  2. Taste Washington is in their 20th year and will be March 23-26…20  years of amazing food and wine from Washington all in one place? Sign me up!
  3. Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Big Climb on March 26 – 6,000 people climb up 69 stories of the Columbia Tower all to help find a cure for blood cancers! My co-workers are buzzing about starting a KISW team - would you climb with us?!
  4. Terra Cotta Warriors will be at the Pacific Science Center beginning in April of 2017.  Tickets went on sale last month!
  5. Have y’all heard of Upstream Music Festival? That will be taking over Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood on May 11-13.  They are expecting over 200 artists performing from 25 stages! Thanks, Paul Allen!
  6. The Seattle International Beer Fest is happening July 7th, 8th and 9th. Come and enjoy some IPAs with me!
  7. The Seattle Street Food Festival comes to South Lake Union July 15th to 16th. I’m hungry just thinking about it.
  8. Who doesn’t love an outdoor concert? Zoo Tunes at Woodland Park Zoo is a summer tradition celebrating more than 30 years. In past concert series, I've seen Trombone Shorty, Robert Cray and Ziggy Marley. Can't wait to see who they bring in this summer!
  9. Super excited about this one. Guns N Roses at The Gorge September 3rd. I’ll be there with TONS of Rockaholics, I'm sure! Tickets go on sale SATURDAY!

Do you have something you'd like to add to my hit-list?! If so, email me the scoop so I can check it out and pass along the details!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
