Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: Take a One-Tank-Trip to Prosser

August 7, 2017

Known as the birthplace of Washington's wine industry, Prosser is less than 3 hours from Seattle and packs a TON of excitement into small town life. Take a One-Tank-Trip to this quaint town along the Yakima River for endless adventures and recreation!

First and foremost, if you're considering this One-Tank-Trip, might I recommend you take it the weekend of August 26th?! That's the date of the Prosser Beer & Whiskey Festival, and I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing! More than 20 breweries and distilleries will participate, along with live music, amazing food offerings AND a cigar lounge.

The cost of admission includes your tastings, and here's a look at who's serving them up:

2nd Street Distilling Co.

Berchman's Brewing Company

Bombing Range Brewing

Columbia Valley Brewing

Cowiche Creek Brewing Company

D's Wicked Cider

DogHaus Brewery

DW Distilling

Ellensburg Distillery

Heritage Distilling Company

Hermiston Brewing Co.

Hop Nation Brewing Co.

Horse Heaven Hills Brewery

Icicle Brewing Company

Iron Horse Brewery

New Boundary Brewing

Ordnance Brewing

Oregon Grain Growers Brand Distillery

Orlison Brewing Company

Rivery City Brewing

Shot in the Dark Craft Distillery

Snipes Mountain Microbrewery

Swede Hill Distilling

Whiskey Gap Distillery

White Bluffs Brewing

Whitstran Brewing Company

Yakima Craft Brewing Co.

If beer and spirits aren't really your thing, remember you're in the birthplace of Washington's wine country! With more than 30 wineries in the area, you'll have to come back for another couple trips before you hit them all. Unless of course, you are REALLY dedicated! A Taryn Daly favorite is Kestrel Vintners, and you may have visited their tasting rooms in Leavenworth or Woodinville. However, their home is in Prosser, and their 126-acre estate vineyard is stunning!

When you work up an appetite, be sure to venture to Horse Heaven Saloon for a completely western-themed gastro-pub the whole family can dig! They often have live music, and Horse Heaven Hills Brewery's craft beer is on tap. When it comes to burgers, they certainly don't mess around...

I've become slightly obsessed with the Tiny House movement sweeping the globe, so definitely check out Alexandria Nicole Cellars Tiny Houses for a unique place to stay when you're in Prosser! It's 'glamping' at its finest, with under 400 square feet of space, vineyard views and quirky designs. They were even featured on HGTV's Tiny Houses, Big Living!

Take in a great hike while you are there, like Horse Heaven Hills. It's 6.8 miles roundtrip, but there are two options to choose between, whether you are looking for low impact or something more challenging. When you get to the top, you'll have unobstructed views of the Horse Heaven Hills, Rattlesnake Mountain and the Tri-Cities!

Enjoy your One-Tank-Trip to Prosser, Rockaholics! Summer is FAR from over, so there's plenty of time to get out there, but the area is stunning in the fall, so you might wait a month or two to take in the colors of the season. Either way, have a blast!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
