Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: Save Oyster Dome

January 9, 2017

Many of you know that before I started working full time at KISW, I spent three incredible years living in Bellingham, a place I LOVED exploring week in and week out, rain or shine. With so many trails to hike and bike, you can get out any day of the week and find adventure, not to mention incredible views of mountains, the San Juan Islands, and beautiful forestry.

One of the most treasured places I've ever hiked is Oyster Dome, and it's currently facing a threat of deforestation. The views from the lookout are absolutely breathtaking, but it's the journey getting there that's equally stunning. I can't imagine if it were decimated to stumps.

When I think of hiking those trails leading to Lizard or Lily Lakes with no green at all, I honestly tear up. This is where we take our dogs on beautiful hikes, let them swim freely, an enjoy being surrounded by trees.

I just learned last week of an event happening THIS SUNDAY to help spread the word and hopefully save this incredible area from deforestation. If you're in the north end, or willing to travel, please consider joining me and hundreds of others in the filming of an important documentary! Let's Save Oyster Dome From Deforestation has organized a critical event, and our local representatives need to hear our voices.

This is where you'll find me on Sunday at 10am, rain or shine, to hike my favorite Whatcom County hike with other supporters. Four legged friends welcome. :)

If you cannot attend, please consider sharing this blog or the event with your north-end friends, fellow hikers and adventurers, and those who appreciate the beauty of the PNW! THANK YOU Rockaholics!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
