However, many of us have been following the Western Hockey League for decades, and for the next two weekends, there are bragging rights on the line in Western Washington.

The Everett Silvertips and the Seattle Thunderbirds have a rivalry dating back to 2003 when Everett entered the WHL. Geographically, they are the closest teams in the U.S. division, so it was only natural they would build a substantial rivalry, drawing thousands of local fans to either arena for a night of intense hockey and a little friendly trash talk. To date, Everett has outscored Seattle 393-371 over the years, with Everett winning 76 rivalry meetings to Seattle's 58.

These junior hockey players are exceptional athletes in a league comprised of 22 teams throughout Western Canada, Washington and Oregon, and many of them will go on to play in the NHL, possibly for Seattle's future franchise. This is the perfect opportunity to ride the wave of enthusiasm and anticipation we're feeling this week and see the talent we already have playing locally.

Although I'll own the fact that I rooted for the Seattle Thunderbirds when I was young, I became an Everett Silvertips fan when the north end got our very own WHL team and have been a Tips supporter since they entered the league! GO TIPS! I'll see you in the Ice Box this season.

Happy Adventuring,
