Different Thanksgiving Dishes

Thanksgiving is less than a week away...anyone else feel like Halloween was last weekend?

That being said, I am stressing out because this is the first time since I was a kid that we are gathering all the cousins and Tios/Tias (Uncles and Aunts) together so it's going to be a lot of us!

For the last few weeks though, I've been listening to Sara complain about how bad Thanksgiving food is. (Granted she grew up a vegetarian so she didn't have too many great Thanksgiving memories)

Her thinking is, if it's so great, why don't people have stuffing and turkey any other time of the year.

For me, I love Thanksgiving, the food, the coziness, the family bonding time...but I couldn't argue with her because I never really have traditional Thanksgiving foods.

My folks weren't really fans of Turkey and such, I never had it, instead we'd have a pineapple clove ham. Instead of stuffing, we had what my mom calls a Russian salad (cooked peas, carrots, and potatoes with mayo). We'd still have mash potatoes and dinner rolls, but we'd made a sweet apple dessert salad instead of cranberry sauce and instead of pumpkin pie, we'd have a pistachio pudding with pineapple tidbits and walnuts.

This year, I'm excited because my mom has announced we will be making tamales (good bye weekend)!

So, for those who are like Sara, and just wanted to help you  out with some alternative foods to eat on Thanksgiving!
