Mind-Eff Movies

Vicky's Nerdy N Dirty Blog

April 27, 2018

In my Bob Ross blog, I mentioned I had the idea to write a blog about movies that are a big “Mind Eff”, meaning when you’re done watching them, you just…can’t…function. You are thinking about everything, and piecing things together but at the same time, cannot believe that is how the movie was doing to end or what the true meaning/motives were.

Here are some of my top “Mind Eff” movies/shows:

Legion

Starring Dan Stevens, Rachel Keller, Syd Barrett, Aubrey Plaza, and Jean Smart

Ok, so not really a movie, it’s a TV show, but it feels like multiple movies in one season. Legion is one of those shows you might want to enjoy with an “herbal goodie” but it does require attention to follow what is going on.  Legion follows the story of David, whom was diagnosed with schizophrenic, but later discovers his unique powers that lead him to try to saving the world.

This is based in the X-men universe and based in the 1970’s. Visually it is one of the most stunning shows I’ve ever seen because of the effects, don’t believe me? Check this scene out from season 1.

Totally worth the binge!

Arrival

Starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker

When alien life forms arrive on Earth, the military recruits a linguist to attempt to communicate with them.

This is not like an alien movie you have seen, and it surely doesn’t go the way you’d expect. I remember I walked out of the movie and had to stop by the store, but couldn’t communicate with the cashier. My mind was still focusing on what had happened.

Annihilation

Starring: Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson

This one came out just a few months ago and I knew it was going to mess me up. When biologist (Natalie Portman) signs up to go on a dangerous and secret mission to a mysterious zone called “The Shimmer” where the laws of nature are warped. I love that the mission was all female but it wasn’t a “girl power” type of movie. If you ever get the chance to see it on the big screen, even better. They created such a beautiful world but made it so eerie at the same time.

Avengers: Infinity War

Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo (and a million other amazing people)

It premiered last night with today being the first official day of its release!

I walked out not being able to process my thoughts into words. I will not say anything more except that if you are fans of the previous Marvel movies, you will love this one!

What movies really “mind-effed” you?

Until Next Time, Stay Nerdy!
