Vicky's Dirty N' Nerdy Blog: "Nerdy Soundtracks Part 1"

June 16, 2017

Good day my nerdy brethren!

One of the things we’ve talked about a lot on BJ Shea’s Geek Nation is the unsung heroes of the movies/shows we love, and it’s the talented musicians behind the soundtracks. Whether it’s a carefully compiled list of classic songs or a beautify symphony for the score, I am a huge fan of the work that goes into this.

This weekend a documentary of just that is coming out called, “SCORE: A Film Music Documentary”! Check out the trailer:

That got me thinking, I have a lot of amazing “nerdy” soundtracks on my iPod, and I thought I would share my favorite songs from a few of these!

The Crow

This is probably one of soundtracks where I just mention it, and everyone immediately nods their head in agreement, acknowledging it’s greatness. I will confess, I own both the film’s score soundtrack and the regular soundtrack, both of which are amazing. If they do make a rebooted crow movie (LINK), they will really need to step it up in the music department.

Nightmare Revisited

So the original Nightmare Before Christmas had some amazing original songs on the soundtrack composed by the very talented Danny Elfman, but back in 2008, they re-released all the songs, but with an awesome ROCK twist!

From Korn, Marilyn Manson, Amy Lee, Flyleaf, and a bunch more, they really knocked it out of the park with this album. You bet your ass I play this from October-December non-stop!

((PS: I wonder if Korn will play “Kidnap the Sandy Claws" at Pain in the Grass…))

The final one for today is from a newer show called Westworld.

Westworld came out in November and had thirty-four pieces composed especially for it. On top of that, they also include some awesome “western” covers of some amazing songs like “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden,” Paint It, Black” by The Rolling Stones, and “Something I Can Never Have” by Nine Inch Nails. I love this soundtrack when I go on a walk.

Until Next Time,

Stay Nerdy! ~ Vicky B
