Everything ROCKS

March 14, 2016

The umbrella of ROCK music is mighty. It transcends generations and it embraces many sub-categories. Classic Rock. Thrash Metal. Punk Rock. Alternative. Folk. It's important to remember that not everyone has to like every sub-category, but you certainly should respect someone else's decision to like it.

I used to be a TOTAL music snob. For years, I would literally judge someone based on their musical interests. I was making a HUGE mistake in keeping a closed mind and heart. Over the years, I have matured a lot when it comes to my own musical tastes and respecting the musical tastes of others. I finally woke up one day and realized, "Hey! What works for me might not work for someone else, and vice versa, and that is PERFECTLY okay!" The bottom line is - everything ROCKS. What you like ROCKS. What I like ROCKS. And do you want to know why?!?! Because that's what works for us as individuals! Sometimes a certain song or a certain genre gets me through the day without crying. Sometimes a certain artist is what I need to feel a certain nostalgia when I'm missing a friend or a family member. You can listen to different music all throughout your day and it can create a myriad of emotions depending on what you happen to be dealing with in your life. It's important to not be judgmental as a fan of ROCK. And if you don't like what someone else likes, it's okay to say, "That band doesn't really do it for me." But I get really frustrated when someone says, "That band SUCKS." That's just not true! They might not be your cup of tea, but they don't suck. To someone else, that band ROCKS. So agree to disagree, don't slam others for what makes them move and feel feelings, and keep an open mind and heart! Because when you break it all down, everything ROCKS.

Happy Adventuring,
